Creating a custom domain (custom URL) for your Trainual account will help boost your brand identity and content credibility β€” for your employees and anyone outside your account that you share content with. Plus, it's much more memorable and fun than an autogenerated URL. πŸ˜‰ Find out how you can make that upgrade below! ⬇️

πŸ‘‰ Before you start:

  • Custom domains are only available for select subscriptions. Reach out to support directly to see if your plan qualifies. πŸ“§

  • Only Billing Admins and Admins can request this change.

  • This is a two-part setup guide that involves an external purchase.

Part 1: Purchase

1. Choose your preferred domain registrar. πŸ€”

A domain registrar is a company that manages the reservation of internet domain names. Some popular options include GoDaddy, Namecheap, and Google Domains.

2. Search for an available domain. πŸ‘€

Use the domain registrar's website to search for an available domain name that you'd like to purchase. Keep in mind that some popular domain names may already be taken, so you may need to be creative.

πŸ”₯ Tips

  • Keep it short and sweet.

  • Make it unique to your company.

  • Make it easy to remember.

3. Purchase the domain. πŸ’³

Once you've found an available domain name, you can add it to your cart and complete the checkout process to purchase it. That'll likely involve making some purchasing preferences and providing your billing information.

Part 2: Reach out

1. Reach out to Trainual. πŸ“¬

After you purchase the domain, please reach out to support@trainual.com with your request and provide the full name of the purchased domain and the domain registrar where you purchased it from in your message.

2. DNS and TXT set up. πŸ› οΈ

Trainual team members will work on your DNS (Domain Name System) and will get back to you with a name and value you'll need to create a TXT record on your end.

This is super easy! Let's say you used Google Domains to purchase your custom domain. Just head to your Google Domain account settings > locate the "DNS" tab and find the "Custom records" section.

πŸ“ Please note: Each domain registrar will have a different process for creating a TXT record. Reach out to their support team or look through their docs if you feel stuck.

Once your DNS is officially set up, we will verify that everything is active on our end and that you're good to enjoy your new custom domain for Trainual! Great work. πŸŽ‰

FAQs

Does Trainual provide the option for custom subdomains?

We are not currently supporting subdomain changes (ex., trainual.bestworkplace.com). That is to say; we would need a root domain name like "best-work-place.org" or "bestworkplace.com" to accommodate a change request.

Can my domain name include a specific routing path?

We are not currently supporting route-specific paths (i.e., adding a piece like β€œ/training” as part of your preferred domain name). We would need you to set up a stand-alone, custom domain specifically for your Trainual account (i.e., learninglibrary.co or thebestworkplace-training.com).

Will I need to make any updates to my current SSO authentication before my custom domain is set live?

Yes. You will need to make an update to add your custom domain to the specific SSO URL redirect. The information you need for your particular SSO can be found on one of the following help documents: Google, Okta, and Azure. Your support agent can help guide you through this part of the process asynchronously.

Can the custom domain process and setup be expedited for me?

No. At this time, the complete process for a custom domain change can take up to approximately two weeks, all depending on when the request was submitted and how much troubleshooting is necessary to ensure everything is set up properly.

❗️Please note that this upgrade will not affect your team's current content, training, or onboarding experiences and that all timelines for your specific customization will be addressed during the support correspondence you receive from the Trainual team.

Can favicons be added to a custom domain request?

Custom favicons are not currently supported.

How can I submit my feedback and ideas about features?

If you'd like to share your thoughts about custom domains or think of something else you'd like to see added in the future, send us your feature requests and ideas.
