Getting your content migrated from Microsoft Word to Trainual is pretty easy. To do it, you'll employ a technique you probably learned in a high school tech class: "Copy & Paste" πŸ˜‰ Here's the BEST way to do this to ensure you don't have any wonky formatting.

Start in Trainual

Set up the Subject, Topic(s), and Step(s), you'll need. If need some help thinking through how to organize and structure your content in Trainual, check out this help doc.

Next, do the following:

  1. Open a Step where you want the content to live.

  2. Navigate to your Word document.

  3. Select and Copy the content you want using Ctrl+C (PC) or Command+C (Mac).

  4. Navigate back to the Trainual Step where you want it to go.

Depending on the browser you use, do the following:

  • Chrome (preferred): Right-click and select: Paste and Match Style

  • Safari: Click the Edit menu and select: Paste and Match Style

  • Firefox: Hold down CTRL+Shift+V (PC) or CTRL+Command+V (Mac)

Doing this removes the Word document formatting and lets you easily apply your established Brand Styles to the content you've pasted.

FYI: You may need to reformat things like:

  • headers

  • bullets & numbering

  • font colors

  • etc.

Oops!

What if you forget to "match style" when you paste the content? No worries! We'll let you know and give you the opportunity to "clean it up" aka attempt to match the Word formatting to your set Brand styles.

If you click "Clean" but you don't like the formatting we chose, no problem! You can just delete the text and choose "keep". You can then edit the formatting from the original Word formatting.

For you inquisitive types πŸ•΅πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

Why not just paste it without matching the style? The answer is: formatting. Microsoft has its own formatting and when you paste content without matching the style in Trainual, some of that formatting carries over and it can make "re-formatting" a challenge.
