Performance reviews shouldn't be a memory test. Trainual helps you build an ongoing record of recognition, feedback, growth, and review outcomes — so that performance conversations start with tangible context rather than recollection. 😉

👉 Before you start:

  • Performance is a paid, subscription-based suite in Trainual's platform.
  • Specific user permissions and visibility vary by Performance feature and by your relationship to the employee. Check the relevant articles mentioned throughout this help article for more details.

Overview:

🤔 What can you do with the Performance suite, you ask?

  • 📋 Run reviews with the full picture. Both self and manager reviews draw on real performance evidence you've tracked over time in Trainual, so reviews become a direct evaluation of what actually happened.

  • 📣 Recognize wins and share feedback in the moment. Give public praise on the record, share private feedback with the right audience, or request perspective from others instead of waiting for the next formal review.

  • 🌱 Turn feedback into focused growth areas. Capture development priorities and give employees and managers something concrete to work toward.

  • 👤 See the full person and context, not just the highlights. An employee's Performance tab brings everything you're permitted to see about them into one place: growth areas, review packets, praise and feedback, visible year-round.

Performance conversations immediately become less drab, more rad with this suite. 😎 Keep reading if you want your team's growth to be clear and obvious, not assumed.

About reviews:

When review time comes, Trainual gives your team a structured way to reflect on the past period and turn those perspectives into a useful, productive conversation.

As mentioned, Trainual reviews don't hinge on recall when a cycle launches because everything is made readily accessible for you. Here's what you'll see. 📑

Who's looking: What's ready for you: Why it matters:
👤 Self-reviewer

What's already yours to reference during a cycle:

You can avoid under- or over-reporting on your own performance by grounding your self-review in the facts.

Having your feedback, praise, and notes on hand means your self-review has credibility and receipts from minute one.
✏️ Downward-reviewer

What you'll have access to about the participant:

Managers can write fairer reviews when employee work evidence sits right next to performance questions.

You'll be providing your perspectives on a person based on real records and data instead of trying to reconstruct a cycle's worth of work and insight on the spot.
🤖 Trainual's AI assistant

Full visibility and AI power into whatever you're already allowed to use, access, and view in your:

Open Trainual’s AI assistant any time before or during a review cycle to ask questions about a participant —
pulling info and data from Performance, Training, and Operations alike, not just what's logged in this suite.

Ask questions like...

  1. "Which of John's assigned courses are still incomplete going into this review?"
  2. "How has Jane's team tracked against its quarterly goals this cycle?"

About praise and feedback:

When someone does something worth noting (good or needing fixing), Trainual gives your team a way to turn those moments into referenceable records for review time.

🥳 Praise
Great work deserves better than a footnote in next year's review. Public praise locks it in the moment it happens — loud enough for the whole team to notice and catch some of that contagious momentum, setting a positive company tone for what's ahead.

🗣️  Feedback
Coaching that waits for a scheduled review isn't coaching, it's a cleanup session. Private feedback, requested or provided, gives people input while it can still change something, so their next review reflects growth in motion, not a surprise set of notes.

📚 For a full walkthrough, check out the "Praise and feedback" article. ↗

About growth areas:

A review shouldn't be the finish line; it should be the starting point. Growth areas turn a review packet's takeaways and carry them forward into defined next moves.

Undocumented expectations can get said once and slip away, already forgotten by next week. Growth areas intentionally put professional direction front and center. That looks like a defined focus based on prior performance that lives on your people's user profiles — a standing reminder of what to build towards before the next review comes.

📚 For more details, check out "Write review summaries and growth areas." ↗

About the Performance tab:

For anyone with Performance access, their user profile includes a Performance tab — one place to find every review, growth area, praise, and feedback of them, plus your own private notes about them. To open it, click the person’s name anywhere in Trainual (or your avatar, then your name to access your own) and select the "Performance" tab.

👀 What you’ll see there depends on who you are. Everyone with Performance access can see their own Performance tab. What they can see on other people's tabs depends on their permission and access level. Review those permissions here [Coming soon].

🙂‍↕️ One thing in life is certain: change. New managers, new quarters, new cycles come and go, but none of it should mean losing the thread and pulse on your people's progress. With Performance inputs automatically captured in this one place on your users' profiles, leaders can manage well from day one with full context, and individuals always have a clear, running view of where their own professional growth stands.

Use Trainual suites together:

Performance works best as part of the whole Trainual platform. Most growing businesses run into the same three problems: people aren’t sure how the work should be done, the day-to-day drifts from what’s expected, and it’s hard to definitively see whether the team is actually improving quarter to quarter, year over year.

When the full Trainual platform is used, the loop closes. Operations keeps a day-to-day record that gives every review and business decision something real to reference, and Performance points people back to the right Training when there’s a gap to close. The more of your business that lives in Trainual, the more context you'll have for everything that comes next. Simply put, your company toolkit gets heavily expanded!

That's three suites and one business that keeps getting better! 🤹‍♀️

FAQs:

How is Trainual's Performance suite different from a performance review module in other HRIS or payroll systems?
HRIS and payroll systems are great at being an organized collection of your people and pay records. Trainual reviews are built on the training, expectations, and day-to-day work your team already captures here, so every review always starts with full context.

How can I submit my feedback and ideas about features?
If you'd like to share your thoughts on the Performance suite or suggest something else you'd like to see added in the future, send us your feature requests and ideas.
